Rose Lee Yong Tan is a Senior Lecturer at Penn State’s Department of Asian Studies. She also holds a joint appointment as the Coordinator of Asian Engagements at the Office of the Vice Provost of Global Programs at Penn State, overseeing Penn State's strategic partnership with institutions in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Malaysia.
She is a native of Malaysia and has lived in China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong for many years. She speaks Malay, Mandarin Chinese and five dialects of Chinese, as well as English fluently. Prior to joining Penn State in 2008, she served as the Director of the Chinese Language Program at the University of Richmond for more than a decade. She also founded the University of Richmond’s Summer Study Abroad Program at Peking University, and served as the Director of that program for nine years.
