Biography:

I received my Ph.D. from University of Minnesota in 1992 (Carlson School of Business). Since then, I have been a faculty in Human Resource Management and Organization Behavior. Early part of my career was at Fordham University, New York. Currently I am a faculty member at Pennsylvania State University, Pennsylvania. I am also on the executive committee of the HR Division of the Academy of Management.

My teaching interests include Human Resource Management (either as a seminar or with focus in any specific area); Selection and Training; Performance Management; Employee Engagement; Organizational Identities and Change; Distributed Work; Leadership and Culture; Cross-cultural Management and Research Methodology. I have taught undergraduate, graduate and executive MBA classes in these subject areas.

My current research interests are in the areas of virtual/distributed organizations, identity, cross-cultural HRM and employee turnover. This research explores outcomes of virtual work such as organizational identification, knowledge sharing, use of communication media and employee stress. I recently received a grant from the Society for Human Resource Management to explore managerial support across cultures for distributed work.

My research has found its way into several refereed journals including Human Relations, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management, Organization Science and Human Resource Management.

I have been a visiting faculty at Copenhagen Business School (Denmark), Indian School of Business (Hyderabad), and Ecole de Management, Grenoble (France). I also provide consulting to IT companies in India who use the data and analyses are used for their internal policy decisions. Prior to joining academia, I worked as a manager/ consultant in India for 5 years in the areas of selection and management development.
