Grants & Resources
Program Grants
Graduate Students
- Asian Studies offers grants to support travel to conferences, to conduct research in foreign countries, for study abroad related to language learning, and to visit archives. Travel funding deadlines occur twice a year, usually in December and in March. In order to apply you must fill out a Travel Request Form.
- Each year scholarships provide $3,000 awards to support summer research and/or travel for a number of students pursuing dual-title PhDs in Asian Studies. These grants are awarded on a competitive basis, with application deadlines announced in mid-Spring.
Faculty
- Asian Studies Seedling Grants award funds of up to $5,000 to any faculty proposal for collaborative work in Asian Studies that will lead to a larger project. This larger project can be a conference, an internal or external grant proposal (including proposals for IAH funding), a proposal for a team-taught course (ideally resulting in application for IAH funding as well), a journal special issue, a book proposal for a collection of essays, or anything else that would involve some significant and material outcome involving Penn State Asian Studies faculty (and, optionally, collaborators from other institutions). Deadline in October.
