Hiraoka-san’s recital blends medieval storytelling with performed music and images in her recital on the history of the biwa (a deep lute-like instrument) and the medieval war chronicle Tale of the Heike. The presentation is a powerful and engaging look into the early history of Japan. In addition to her featured performance, she will be giving a lecture to students enrolled in JPNS422 (War and the Warrior in Japan).
