Biography:

Ian is a dual-title PhD student in Applied Linguistics and Asian Studies at Penn State. His primary research interests include language ideologies and discourse analysis of multilingualism in Korean popular music and the intersection of ideology, policy, and practice among Korean English teachers working in rural South Korean contexts. He draws his research interests from four years of experience living in working in South Korean English education — two years in a high school in Mokpo and two years in a teacher training center (연수원) in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province.
